Biotechnology 1-2

Students practice protein separation via SDS-PAGE, a common method in using electric charge and protein denaturing to separate protein by mass. This allows students to estimate molecular mass and the abundance and distribution of proteins, letting students work through and understand a common scientific method through trial and error.

Biotechnology 3-4

Students present and share their experiments to students and officials alike, demonstrating their methodologies and results regarding topics ranging from cloning crops to curing acne.

Research Immersion

Biotechnology 5-6 Honors

Students isolate, purify, and analyze a bacteriophage (a virus that infects bacteria) originated from their faces. Students go to Genentech to stain their sample and observe the morphology under a transmission electron microscope.
